Edinburgh City say they will appeal a 15-point deduction by the Scottish Professional Football League after a provisional liquidator was appointed in respect of the League 2 club on July 22.
Having lost their opening game of the league season 2-1 against Stirling Albion, City are bottom of League 2 on -15 points.
The liquidator was appointed in relation to an unpaid debt, an action regarded as an insolvency event under SPFL Rules.
The rule itself states: ‘Where a club takes, suffers or is subject to a deductible insolvency event that club shall be deducted 15 points and five points in the league in consecutive seasons.’
The Meadowbank outfit were relegated from League 1 in the 2023-24 season after a six-point deduction for failing to pay players and other debtors.
In a statement, the club said: “Edinburgh City FC hereby acknowledges the penalty imposed upon it by the SPFL this morning.
“The club will begin its appeal process immediately. No further comment will be made at this time.”
