Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell is among the targets West Ham are looking to sign before Monday’s transfer deadline.
The 23-year-old was an important part of the England Under-21 side that won the European Championship in the summer and was named in the Uefa Team of the Tournament.
Cresswell’s performances have attracted interest from clubs in Serie A and the Premier League, and West Ham are the latest to plot a move.
The former Leeds United defender made 34 appearances for Ligue 1 side Toulouse last season, scoring four goals in all competitions.
However, Cresswell’s departure could be complicated by Crystal Palace’s pursuit of his Toulouse team-mate Jaydee Canvot, with talks over a deal for the highly rated French central defender, 19, at an advanced stage.
Having signed Mateus Fernandes from Southampton, West Ham manager Graham Potter hinted on Friday at adding to his squad before the end of the summer transfer window.
“You never know what’s going to happen,” he said. “I think it’ll be one of those windows that’s going to be a lot of activity late.”
